Mud Run

We participated in my first ever mud run on Saturday! It was a 5 mile run in the woods of Camp Lejeune.  We woke up super early that morning to drive over an hour to get there but it was an awesome adventure!  We made it all worth it by enjoying some Dunkin Donuts on our way! Q was a little grumpy to start the day but it turned out to be a great!

I may have been just a little excited for this run!  I had no idea what to expect but I kept thinking about the horse trails we used to run in high school and how muddy we could get then and hoped it was going to be similar. It was.

People probably thought I was crazy taking pictures while running but I didn't care, I knew it wasn't that serious of a race, I mean come on it's a mud run!  Plus when we have a waterproof camera, why not use it.

After we started and ran about a half mile, we entered the woods.  This was the entrance; they started it off by going through this arch and they were spraying you with water.

Then we ran on a trail for a while till we got to the first mud obstacle.  As you can see it got really backed up at this point.  We were completely stopped so I had time to take some photos.  The mud would be as deep as your knee to thigh and some sink holes at times.

This was me waiting to go through another mud pit at about 1.5 mile mark.

This one of Q was before the crawl through area at about the 2.5 mile mark.  You had to get down on your hands and knees to crawl under obstacles.  Q got just a little dirty from this :) I got really dirty from my waist down.

Before the crawl obstacle, you had to walk through ankle to knee deep water/mud. I didn't really enjoy this part because the water was a little chunky, not sure I wanted to know what was in it.

I had to add this photo because it makes me laugh so hard.  It is so blurry because when I took it, I had just started falling into a mud pit that was probably up to my thigh; that's what you get for trying to take a photo in the middle of MUD!  You just never know where the next hole will be.

Afterward, we were so happy to be done! It was a tough run for sure.  There were many up and down steep hills with some added mud and water.  Overall it was a great time and we enjoyed it a lot.  5 mile race down, 10K coming soon, then we will be ready for our half marathon in about 2 months!
